Synopsis

The course is designed for all teaching and support staff who may be called upon to conduct a search of pupils suspected of carrying offensive weapon(s) including knives and bladed articles. By exploring in detail legal concepts such as ‘reasonable grounds’ and ‘reasonable use of force’ the course will equip delegates with the skills and knowledge needed to implement policies and procedures which are appropriate and proportional under the new legislation. Great emphasis is placed throughout the course on the effective use of communications in any incident which may require the use of powers under this new law. The enhancement of communication skills is a significant learning outcome which will benefit all delegates.
